As pet owners, you try and do everything within your power to make sure that your fur babies are safe and well taken care of (and if you don’t, you shouldn’t own a pet.) But there are just some things you never expect to have happen, which is the story that Emma Medeiros has to tell.
The Regina, Saskatchewan, woman experienced a dog owner’s worst nightmare when she was taking her two pups, Pandora and Ophelia, out for a bathroom break in her back yard.
She noticed three pieces of hot dog on the ground,seemingly lying there for her dogs to chomp on.
“It was super nice out so I decided to sit on the front patio while they go do their business, until I noticed my border collie Ophelia sniff a piece of meat that was in the yard,” Medeiros told BuzzFeed Canada.
When she got closer, her “stomach just dropped” the hot dog was laced with razor blade fragments.
“I don’t think I have ever been so shocked in my life,” she said. “It astounds me that someone would want to hurt my precious dogs, or any dog in that manner.”
Medeiros has no idea who would do such a thing, andis obviously relieved that she noticed it before tragedy struck.
“It could have been someone’s child playing out front and not knowing any better and sticking that in their mouth,” she said. “It’s terrible to think of.”
Medeiros notified both the police and the Regina Humane Society, and also uploaded a video of the hot dogto warn other pet parents to be sure to check their yards.
Those found guilty of animal cruelty can face fines up to $25,000 and/or jail time up to two years, so here’s hoping they find the monster who did this.
