Sure, you could go to the pet store and buy your dog a bed. Or you could do what dog ownerJonathan did and tackle a DIY project that’ll make you the BEST friend of man’s best friend.
To treat his pups, Jonathan and his wife turned an old-school television into a luxury dog bed that’sbasically everything his furry friends could have asked for.
He shared the whole project on Imgur, and while it looks really cool, did the dogs like it?
The hardest part of this project was finding a TV that fit the bill.
“It could not be too tall for obvious reasons, and we wanted it to be older looking, not a plastic frame,” he said.
They ended up finding the perfect old TV at Second Chance in Baltimore, a non-profit that deconstructs old buildings and homes, and then sells anything that can still be used. After making the purchase, the couple got to getting started on the project.
The most difficult and dangerous part of the project was removing the TV from the wooden frame.
“Tube TVs can be EXTREMELY dangerous to take apart because of the high charge the tube can hold for months or years after it was last powered off,” he explained. “Make sure you safely discharge the CRT before doing anything.”
With that done, they sanded down the entire outer surface so that it could be painted.
“The entire thing is made out of faux wood, namely particle board,” he said. “It had a veneer finish that we needed to paint over. And paint we did. Lots of painting. We quickly began using a white primer for a base coat, then white spray paint for the finish.”
Then they just used stick-able wallpaper on the backboard.
Next they tested the backboard because the previous back rested on a lip, so this just sat on the back, and they wanted to make sure the fit would work.
