When Sadie, a beautiful black lab, wandered away from her home on February 29, she had no clue what lay ahead of her. The Deer Creek Dam and Reservoir in Wasatch County, Utah, was frozen over but not enough to hold the weight of the scared pup.
Multiple attempts were made to rescue the girl when she walked too far onto the ice, but due to the unfamiliar surroundings, she refused all help. After five days of trying, Utah County Sheriff’s Office Search and Rescue was called in.
She was scared and ran from anyone trying to help her initially.

But when Sadie finally fell through the ice, it gave expert volunteer Toby Norton the opening he needed.

Our hats off to all the people who made this rescue a possibility. A little ingenuity — and an airboat — was all they needed to save this frightened girl. The sheriff’s department reports that Sadie is healthy and doing just fine.
